Hi, I’m Chris Petkas.

I was born in Houston, Texas. I majored in International Relations at the Naval Academy and was assigned to Surface Warfare, before earning a slot to BUD/s, the Basic Underwater Demolition/SEAL Training.

A lot of people know me for my work as a Navy Seal. I served 10 years on active duty.

Today I’m the General Partner at Contrarian Thinking Capital, an early stage VC fund focused on the future of SMB and Main Street America.

Official Biography of Chris Petkas

Christopher Petkas is a former U.S. Navy SEAL who has transitioned into a successful career in defense innovation, technology, investing, and operating businesses.

Born in Houston, Texas, Petkas began his journey of service at the United States Naval Academy. During his time at the Naval Academy, Petkas was a member of the Men’s Lacrosse team for four years, demonstrating his athletic prowess and commitment to teamwork. He graduated in 2010 with a Bachelor of Science in International Relations.

After graduation, Chris initially served as a Surface Warfare Officer in the Navy from 2010 to 2012. However, his drive for challenge and excellence led him to join the elite Navy SEALs in 2012, where he served until 2020. As a SEAL officer, he honed his leadership skills, resilience, and ability to perform under extreme pressure deploying five times in support of Operations Enduring Freedom and Inherent Resolve.

During his military service, he pursued further education, earning an MBA from the University of Virginia Darden School of Business in 2020. This combination of military experience and business acumen positioned him well for his subsequent career moves.

Chris later led the commercial artificial intelligence group at the Defense Innovation Unit (DIU), where he focused on leveraging A.I. for national security applications. His role at DIU allowed him to bridge the gap between cutting-edge technology and national security needs, leading the selection and sourcing of companies solving significant problems for the United States government.

Today, Chris is the General Partner at Contrarian Thinking Capital, an early stage VC fund focused on the transformation of the small and medium business sector. It is also a holding company of private businesses in varying stages and sectors.

Chris is known online for sharing insights on leadership and personal growth, drawing from his diverse experiences in the military and business worlds. His journey from a Navy SEAL to a leader in defense innovation showcases his adaptability, resilience, and commitment to service. His unique background allows him to bring valuable perspectives to the intersection of technology, government, and leadership, making him a respected figure in his field.

He and his wife Codie reside in Austin, Texas. He’s an accomplished martial arts practitioner who enjoys Brazilian jiu-jitsu in his spare time.
